Description
A dense, spiny hedge shrub. Resistant to bad weather, including rain and gales. Gives off a pungent fruit (such as sloes). And is good for jam, wine and gin!
The white flowers occur before the leaves and will bloom even in a blizzard (blackthorn winter). The fruits are eagerly eaten by animals and larger birds for the rest of the winter months.
